When I arrived in July 1967 the unit had been in country just over 3 months. The officers living area was gp medium tents. The first buildings were the administrative buildings (Orderly Room, Mess Hall, etc) and the enlisted barracks. The building of the officer hooches had just started. So if you were not flying that day, you became a day laborer, or if you were lucky and had prior skils, you could be a carpenter, electrician, or concrete worker. When the hooches were done, we started moving in, without walls or ceiling, but at least it wasn’t a tent. Next came the shower, our pride and joy, hot water and all, man was it great…
